Dakeng Scenic area took quite a beating during the recent typhoon, it seems. Impressively, though, Taichung City has already built new sections of the trail to bypass those that were damaged, just a week or two prior, to there photos being taken.
Went for a nice long scooter drive yesterday on the number 3 North, and the number 8 East. I couldn't get much further than Gu Guan because the road was closed, presumably due to the damage caused by the recent killer typhoon, 'Morakot'. You can see some of its destructive effects in the pics.

So after the wind of Friday and calm of Saturday, Typhoon Morakot decided to drop all its water on Taiwan today.
Included in this post : a photo of the dark clouds from my window, a video of some of the heaviest rain I've ever seen, and a video of a news report showing a multi-storey building collapsing into a river, as the one side of it's foundations is washed away. According to a local newspaper headline, this is the worst flooding Taiwan has ever experienced. And to think that just a few days ago people were predicting water restrictions due to the lack of rain Taiwan had had this summer...

The incredible winds on Friday died down to an almost total stillness on Saturday morning, so I ventured outside my apartment to survey some of the damage.

The first big typhoon of the season will arrive in Taiwan tonight. My curtains are already fluttering.
