Spent the day in Taipei yesterday, where among other things, a friend took me to see an acrobatics and Chinese opera show.
Both were great, although I enjoyed the Chinese opera show a little more, as I'd never attended one before.
Here are some poor quality pics of the shows and a movie of a Chinese opera performer doing her thing during the interval.

After spending a few hours in Taipei 101 (see previous post), we decided to take a trip to one of the landmarks of Taipei: Chiang Kai Shek (CKS) Memorial Hall. We had probably just missed the tail end of a large military show day, but fortunately managed to catch a group of Navy officers (is that the right term?) posing for a photographer, and I got my own shot of the dudes in uniform. Afternoon turned into evening, and as we were leaving, I managed to get one of the best shots I've ever taken with this camera phone (the last one) of one of the colourful CKS concert halls lit up with a deep blue evening sky in the background.

After 2 days of mist, rain and overcast skies, the weather cleared up magically to reveal blue skies and the cleanest air I've seen in Taipei to date. Yong Ju (a Korean girl I met in the hostel I was staying at) and I decided that this was the day to pay Taipei 101 (formerly the tallest building in the world) a visit, and we were rewarded with fantastic views of the city from the 89th floor.
If you're in Taipei, and the weather is good, Taipei 101 is a slightly expensive, but still very worthwhile place to visit if you've never been there before.

Images 1 to 3 are from LongShan Temple, and the rest of the media were taken at BoAn Temple. Picture 7 is of thousands of memorial lights which families place in the temple in remembrance of deceased relatives.

Today seems to be day of religious significance here in Taiwan, as there have been these kinds of street processions to and from local temples all day. I wonder what's going on.

One of my favorite recent photos of one of the most efficient and clean metro systems in the world.

Here are a few random shots I've taken of things in Taipei city that have caught my eye.
In the photos:
1. The view from a subway station
2. Lanterns adorning a temple
3. Average apartment buildings

Here are some shots I took while visiting Taipei Zoo two days ago. It's not a bad zoo as far as zoos go, but I'd much rather see the animals in the wild, where they belong.
You can almost see the frustration and boredom on some of their faces...
