Tsu Chi Prayer for Peace Ceremony

Tsu Chi, from what I could gather (by talking to a friendly attendee of the event) is the largest Buddhist charitable organisation in Taiwan. I just happened to be driving past this park in downtown Taichung, and managed to witness what I suppose is an annual day of prayer for global peace. It was an impressive event with the members all dressed in their blue and white uniforms and singing in unison, made more spectacular by the sunset through the skyline of what is becoming a very up-market area in Taichung.

Taipei's Temples

Images 1 to 3 are from LongShan Temple, and the rest of the media were taken at BoAn Temple. Picture 7 is of thousands of memorial lights which families place in the temple in remembrance of deceased relatives.

Today seems to be day of religious significance here in Taiwan, as there have been these kinds of street processions to and from local temples all day. I wonder what's going on.

Look, I do appreciate music and culture different from my own, but is this kind of dischordant racket really necessary at 6.30am on a Sunday morning? Aaaagh! Somebody give me some ear plugs, please!
Thank goodness I don't live here...
