So You Think You Can Drum?

(download)

Went to a games hall called 'Tiger' the other night for a friend's birthday, and watched this dude tearing up a drumming game. Amazing.

Goldfish live @ Emmerentia Dam

Just spent another decent afternoon watching Goldfish do their thing at Emmerentia dam (Johannesburg, South Africa). It was a little damp after all the rain we've had here, but the weather was perfect. For those who don't know, Goldfish are a live electronic/dance act from Cape Town who specialise in blending phat beats with live instruments. Good vibes at a great venue. As usual, all shots were taken with my Nokia N82.

Probably my favourite song of all time

River Of God (Live From Toronto) by Paul Oakley
(download)

Honestly, the thought of praising God for all eternity with a lot of
modern 'worship' music really makes me kind of not look forward to
heaven at all. For some reason (perhaps a lack of lyrical depth, or
musical originality? No, probably just a lack of sincerity...) a good
chunk of music from the 'praise and worship' genre just doesn't do it
for me at all.

This track is different. I've probably listened to it about 100 times
over the past 10 years, and it never gets tired. It's got soul, a
HEAVY beat and an incredible energy. Everytime I listen to it it makes
me dance and look like a fool. Seriously, I love this track. So, here
it is:

"River of God (Live from Toronto)" by Paul Oakley, off the album "When
Deep Calls to Deep".

Good music from Sweden

This post is kind of a test. I've been looking for an easy way to share music for a while now, and I think this new blog at posterous is the answer. Anyway onto the real purpose of this post, which is to share some great music with you.

As some of you may know, I'm a big fan of http://eMusic.com . It initially came to my rescue as an alternative to the iTunes store which isn't available in South Africa, and over the 2 years or so that I've been a subscriber, it has broadened my musical taste a lot, and I've discovered some great bands that I wouldn't have otherwise known about. My latest crop of eMusic discoveries are all signed to the Swedish label 'Labrador', and all seem to have the qualities I consider essential to a band that I'm going to spend money on, namely excellent musicianship and memorable melodies with a mood that is not overly depressing.
This track is "A Window" by The Radio Department. Enjoy.
