2009 Pick 'n Pay Cape Argus Cycle Race
The annual 109 km Pick 'n Pay cycle race is the largest individually timed sporting event in the world, and this year's March 8th event attracted about 40000 participants of varying fitness levels. The vibe from start to finish is fantastic, with locals turning out in their thousands to cheer you on, and up, as you battle it out. This year was the toughest race of all time with gale-force winds gusting up to 140 km/h. Due to this freak wind and several problems related to my tires, I didn't enjoy the race at all this year. At least the weather was clear enough to get some scenic shots of the route...
Highly recommended if you've never done it before, providing you're in decent shape and the weather is good.
